About the Author
William Hommel researched the Mende culture in Sierra Leone from 1971 to 1978. He documented the life of the people; concentrating on celebrations and the use of art work in their culture. He photographed and filmed their life and activities. Documented the everyday activities as well as their making of arts and crafts. Having my young children with me during this research made the people more receptive to allowing me to observe their life and these activities.
